Hoima NRM delegates endorse Speaker Among for 2nd National Vice Chairperson
The NRM is scheduled to hold its internal primaries on August 27–28, 2025, as the party gears up for the 2026 general elections.
Hoima: Delegates of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Hoima District have unanimously endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The endorsement was made on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, during a high-level NRM delegates’ meeting held at Kolping Hotel in Hoima City. The gathering drew Sub-county NRM chairpersons, members of the District Executive Committee (DEC), district councillors, five representatives from the seven NRM leagues, the District Police Commander (DPC), and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Hoima.
The NRM is scheduled to hold its internal primaries on August 27–28, 2025, as the party gears up for the 2026 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the delegates, Vincent Muhumuza Savannah, the Hoima District NRM Chairperson, called on members to throw their support behind Speaker Among, citing her leadership credentials and loyalty to the party.
Delegate Nicholas Musinguzi echoed the endorsement, praising Among’s patriotism, integrity, and commitment to national service. He pledged unwavering support for her candidacy.
Despite the overwhelming endorsement, some delegates used the occasion to raise critical concerns. Mugenyi Mulindabura, the district councillor for Kiganja Sub-county and District NRM Publicity Secretary, called for increased allowances for councillors and urged the party to address ongoing internal conflicts.
Chairperson Muhumuza also acknowledged calls from the delegates for better facilitation of party structures, especially at the village level, and increased remuneration for LC5 Chairpersons.
On behalf of the Elders’ League, District Vice Chairperson Ssedu Muhongoma appealed for a policy shift to lower the SAGE (Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment) eligibility age from 80 to 70 years, noting that many potential beneficiaries pass away before receiving meaningful support.
Dr. Emery Kugonza, MP for Buyanja East, represented Speaker Among at the event and used the platform to rally support not only for her candidacy but also for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s continued leadership.
The Hoima endorsement is seen as a major boost for Among’s campaign as she positions herself to retain and solidify her influence within the NRM’s top leadership structures ahead of the 2026 elections.
