Kyetume declines to support NRM flag bearer, backs Wobusobozi’s independent bid for Masindi LCV seat
“This is no longer about me and my team alone. It is about every resident of Masindi who desires real development,” Wobusobozi said.
Masindi: David Kyetume Kasanga, who finished third in the recently concluded NRM party primaries for the LCV Chairperson flag in Masindi District, has publicly declined to support the official party flag bearer, Godfrey Byarugaba, citing several concerns about the electoral process.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday afternoon at Kolping Hotel in Masindi Town, Kyetume revealed that he had initially expected to emerge second in the primaries, anticipating some level of vote rigging. He had, therefore, prepared to launch an independent candidacy.
However, after being declared third, he has now thrown his support behind Patrick Wobusobozi, another candidate who has since declared to run as an independent.
Kyetume, a former colleague of Byarugaba at Masindi District Local Government (MDLG), stated that he was approached by Wobusobozi and is convinced that he represents a leadership style grounded in consultation, vision, and responsiveness.
“I have decided to support Wobusobozi because he is a tactful leader who listens and accommodates advice. I will also share with him a manifesto full of development ideas for Masindi,” Kyetume said.
Patrick Wobusobozi, who came second in the NRM primaries, reaffirmed his independent candidacy for the LCV seat in the 2026 general elections. He emphasized that his campaign now goes beyond party politics and is focused on delivering meaningful change for all residents of Masindi District.
“This is no longer about me and my team alone. It is about every resident of Masindi who desires real development,” Wobusobozi said.
He thanked Kyetume for the endorsement and encouraged voters to rally behind his independent bid in the forthcoming elections.
Kyetume and Wobusobozi both criticized the conduct of the party primaries, indirectly suggesting irregularities, though stopping short of making formal allegations.
The two leaders now aim to build a united front focused on community-driven development, bypassing party lines in pursuit of what they describe as inclusive and people-centered leadership.
