One critically injured as bus rams into water channel in Nwoya

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether mechanical failure, driver error, or other factors contributed to the incident.

Nwoya: One person was critically injured and five others sustained minor injuries after a bus belonging to Friends Bus Company veered off the road and plunged into a water channel in Nwoya District.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 PM on Tuesday  near Ayago Bridge valley along the Karuma–Pakwach Highway, according to ASP Ongom David Mudong, the Aswa West Regional Police Public Relations Officer.

The vehicle involved was a Zongtong bus, registration number UBE 978W, traveling from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Kampala with 67 passengers on board.

Police identified the driver as Segimuri Mudash, 49, a resident of Ndeeba, Rubaga Division in Kampala.

The most seriously injured passenger was Oryem Innocent, 35, a businessman and resident of Pakwach Town Council, who suffered fractured legs. He was rushed to Atapara Hospital for emergency medical care.

Five other passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals and clinics for treatment. Their identities had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Police officers responded to the scene promptly, documenting the incident as investigations continue to establish the cause of the crash. The bus remained at the accident site as arrangements were being made for its removal.
