Sheikh Mugenyi inaugurated as 7th District Khadi of Bunyoro

He urged his successor to remain steadfast and uphold integrity in all religious and community affairs.

Hoima: In a significant milestone for the Muslim community in Bunyoro, Sheikh Rajab Mugenyi Akiiki has been officially inaugurated as the 7th District Khadi of the Bunyoro Muslim District.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Bwikya Headquarters Mosque playground in Hoima City, was presided over by Sheikh Hafizi Haruna Muhammad Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti of Uganda.

In his inaugural address, Sheikh Mugenyi pledged to uphold the legacy of his predecessors by continuing and expanding ongoing projects.

He also called upon the government to support the completion of the Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim Regional Headquarters, construction of a new district mosque, and implementation of poverty alleviation programs for the Muslim community.

The outgoing Khadi, Sheikh Musa Babanja, urged his successor to remain steadfast and uphold integrity in all religious and community affairs.

Delivering a message from the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Sheikh Bukenya emphasized the importance of unity and peace, encouraging the new Khadi to preserve and build upon the harmony inherited from his predecessor.

Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga, the Prime Minister of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, commended the Muslim community for their contribution to cultural preservation, especially through promoting modest dressing and cultural values.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, represented by the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robina Nabanja, congratulated the new District Khadi and presented him with a brand-new double cabin vehicle and fuel worth UGX 10 million.

The outgoing Khadi also received a UGX 10 million cash gift in recognition of his service.

In the President’s message, read by Nabanja, Khadi Mugenyi was tasked to mobilize the Muslim community in support of government development programs aimed at transforming the Bunyoro region through wealth creation and job generation.

The high-profile event was attended by several dignitaries, including Grace Mary Mugasa, State Minister for Public Service, Balaam Barugahara, State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Hoima City Woman MP and the delegations from other faith-based organizations and religious communities.
