MOGO Uganda partners with Airtel Uganda to launch smartphone loan program
He highlighted that increased smartphone access can directly contribute to income generation through online opportunities.

Hoima:In a move set to bridge the digital divide, MOGO Uganda has partnered with Airtel Uganda to launch an innovative smartphone loan program, aimed at making smartphones more accessible and affordable for Ugandans.
The program was officially launched at HB Hotel in Hoima City, where Douglas Kikonyogo, MOGO Uganda’s Marketing and Communications Manager, unveiled the initiative.
He emphasized that the program addresses a critical gap in smartphone affordability one of the biggest barriers preventing many Ugandans from participating in the digital economy.
“Smartphones are essential tools in today’s world helping individuals connect, learn, and thrive. This program reduces the financial burden of owning one, empowering more Ugandans to participate in the digital space,” Kikonyogo said.
Rogers Mbabazi, the Hoima District Resident Commissioner and chief guest at the event, applauded the initiative. He highlighted that increased smartphone access can directly contribute to income generation through online opportunities.
“As the government pushes for economic transformation and improved household incomes, such programs complement our efforts. Access to smartphones means access to the internet and many people today earn a living online,” Mbabazi noted.
From the telecommunications side, Mathius Kitimbwa, representing Airtel Uganda in Hoima, underlined the transformative power of smartphones in education and business.
“Smartphones have enabled learners to access online educational resources and helped business owners run operations more efficiently,” Kitimbwa said. “To support this initiative, Airtel is expanding its network by installing more masts in various regions.”
The MOGO-Airtel partnership is seen as a strategic step toward digital inclusion, offering affordable smartphone financing options to a population where mobile technology is increasingly vital for education, commerce, and communication.
