Bishop Idrifua pronounced dead at Mulago Hospital

His death marks the end of a powerful spiritual and community voice in northern Uganda.

Kitgum: Bishop David Idrifua Otto, a revered Pentecostal leader and founder of the Spring of Healing Centre in Central Division, Kitgum Municipality, has died.

He was pronounced dead on the morning of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

The announcement was made by Pastor Komagum Alfred, Senior Pastor of the Christian Community Church in Kitgum Municipality, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a man he described as a spiritual father and a hero in the religious world.

In his final weeks, Bishop Otto delivered impassioned sermons on Radio Mighty Fire 91.5 FM, particularly during the program “Oruu Ki Rwot”, which Pastor Komagum described as the bishop’s “spiritual farewell to the world.”

Arrangements are currently underway to transport his body from Kampala to Gulu, where it will be preserved in a mortuary as burial plans are finalized. Further details about the funeral will be communicated in due course.

Bishop Otto was well-known for his leadership both locally and nationally. He formerly served as the Provincial Overseer for East Acholi and as a National Elder representing the Acholi sub-region in the National Fellowship of Born Again and Pentecostal Churches (NFBPC) of Uganda.

Beyond his church duties, Bishop Otto was a vocal advocate for moral integrity and community development. He frequently addressed societal issues on local radio, gaining widespread respect for his firm stance on religious values.

Notably, he criticized the increasing moral decay at Kitgum’s annual trade show, lamenting its shift from promoting digital business and entrepreneurship to entertainment that he believed distracted the youth.

His death marks the end of a powerful spiritual and community voice in northern Uganda.
