Teenager hangs self over love

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Agago: Tragedy struck in Oporot Village, Oporot Parish, Patongo Town Council in Agago District, as a 17-year-old girl identified as Akullu Lillian allegedly took her own life after she was stopped by her aunt from continuing a romantic relationship with her boyfriend.

According to the Aswa East Regional Police Acting Spokesperson, IP Oloya Joe, the incident occurred on Wednesday June 25 2025 at around 5:00 PM.

It is alleged that the deceased, who had been left alone at home, retrieved a rope commonly used for tying goats, fastened it to the roof, and hanged herself.

The case was reported by Komakech Joseph, aged 32, the LCIII Chairperson and resident of Oporot East Village, to Patongo Central Police Station as a suspected suicide case to aid further investigation.

IP Oloya confirmed that a postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was later handed over to the deceased’s relatives for burial arrangements.

He added that no physical injuries were observed on the body, suggesting no foul play. However, police inquiries indicate that the deceased had been experiencing conflict with her aunt over her relationship with the alleged boyfriend.
