UG Decides 2026

Bishop Ateirweho calls for peaceful elections

“Leadership is not about confrontation and hatred,” he said. “It is about bringing people together and serving them selflessly.”

Kagadi: As Uganda prepares for the 2025–2026 general elections, Bishop Jacob Ateirweho of the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese has called on politicians and their supporters to conduct peaceful, respectful, and trust-driven campaigns.

Speaking on Sunday at Mabale Church of Uganda Parish, where he confirmed 59 Christians into the Anglican faith, the bishop cautioned political leaders against using inflammatory language or promoting violence.

“You shouldn’t use abusive language and promote violence because such actions could destabilize the country and divide communities,” Bishop Ateirweho warned.

He urged all candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns that prioritize the needs and aspirations of the people, rather than engaging in personal attacks and hostility. Emphasizing that leadership is about unity and service, he reminded the public that true leadership is a divine calling.

“Leadership is not about confrontation and hatred,” he said. “It is about bringing people together and serving them selflessly.”

In addition to his message to politicians, the bishop encouraged Christians to care for the needy within their communities and to strengthen their faith in Christ, affirming that this is the path to eternal life.
