Suspected thieves abandon vehicle with stolen livestock in Arua
Police are actively pursuing leads to identify the vehicle owner and apprehend those involved in the theft.

Arua: Authorities in Arua City have launched a security operation following the discovery of an abandoned vehicle containing suspected stolen livestock in Jokiva Cell, Onzivu Ward, Ayivu East Division.
The incident, reported on May 16, 2025, prompted a swift response from officers at Muni University Police Station.
According to police, on the morning of May 17 at approximately 8:00 AM, law enforcement personnel, acting on credible intelligence, secured the scene near Spring Valley of Assa.
They recovered a vehicle with registration number UBD 291J, which had a deflated tire. Inside, officers found two bulls, believed to be stolen, concealed under a black tarpaulin.
The discovery was officially recorded under Reference SD:05/17/05/2025 and logged in CRB No. 089/2025 at Ayivu East Police Division.
In a press briefing, SP Collins Asea, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the recovery and described the circumstances as suspicious.
“The vehicle was abandoned with a flat tyre, likely due to mechanical failure or as a result of being pursued. No ownership documents were found inside, which has hindered immediate identification,” SP Asea explained.
No suspects have been arrested so far, and the rightful ownership of the bulls has not yet been established.
The recovered livestock is currently being held at Muni Farm, while the vehicle has been impounded for forensic analysis as investigations continue.
Police are actively pursuing leads to identify the vehicle owner and apprehend those involved in the theft.
SP Asea called for public cooperation, urging residents with any information to come forward.
“We appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Community involvement is key in combating livestock theft in the region,” he added.
