Police condemns mob justice after Jinja lynching incident
“Let us promote non-violent conflict resolution methods and respect the rule of law to foster dialogue and a peaceful environment,” he said.

Jinja: The Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Kiira Region, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Charles Nsaba, has issued a stern warning to the public against mob justice and the rising tendency to bypass lawful justice institutions.
His comments come in the wake of a grisly mob killing that claimed the life of an unidentified 25-year-old man at Mpumudde Trading Centre, Jinja City, in the early hours of Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Speaking at the Kiira Regional Police Headquarters, SSP Nsaba condemned the unlawful killing and urged citizens to embrace peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms and respect the rule of law.
“Let us promote non-violent conflict resolution methods and respect the rule of law to foster dialogue and a peaceful environment,” he said.
Following a tip-off, officers from Jinja Central Police Station, led by ASP Stella Betty Auko, Acting Officer-in-Charge of CID, responded swiftly to the scene. Several exhibits were recovered, including; two bars of white star soap, an old panga anda brown bag.
The body of the deceased was transported to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. A thorough investigation is now underway to identify those involved and determine the motive behind the attack.
SSP Nsaba stressed that those responsible will face the full force of the law, warning that no one has the right to take justice into their own hands.
To address the growing concerns of mob justice, Kiira Region Police have intensified community policing efforts aimed at promoting civic education, lawful conduct and community stability.
SP James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, echoed SSP Nsaba’s sentiments, urging the public to report suspects to police rather than resort to vigilante actions.
He cited another recent incident near the Jinja City Central Market, where a suspected motorcycle thief was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob.
“We have zero tolerance for mob justice. Citizens must cooperate with the police so that due process of the law is followed,” SP Mubi said.
He also called on the public to support government programs aimed at improving livelihoods, such as Parish Development Model (PDM) and Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF 4).
Mubi cautioned against politicizing or sabotaging these initiatives, saying they play a key role in addressing root causes of crime, especially among unemployed and vulnerable youth.
