As the 2026 elections approach, Hon. Wandwasi is rallying support on a platform of continuity, progress, and people-centered leadership.

Mbale: Hon. Robert Wandwasi, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bungokho South Constituency in Mbale District, Eastern Uganda, has officially declared his intention to seek re-election, writes Eronn Mutasheka.

With a strong record of development initiatives and unwavering dedication to public service, Hon. Wandwasi is confident that he remains the best candidate to lead Bungokho South into a new era of growth and transformation.

Bungokho South, one of the three constituencies created from the larger Bungokho area, was established in 1996 and initially led by the long-serving MP Kafwabusa Werikhe. The constituency today comprises five sub-counties and one town council, located in the southern part of Mbale District.

Under Hon. Wandwasi’s leadership, Bungokho South has made notable strides in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Among his significant achievements is lobbying for an ambulance from the Ministry of Health, which was allocated to Busiu Health Centre IV greatly enhancing emergency health services in the area.

He has also led successful fundraising efforts to expand Busiu Health Centre IV and has actively supported other social initiatives aimed at uplifting community welfare. His role in welcoming a high-level delegation led by the Prime Minister further highlighted his commitment to attracting government attention and investment to the constituency.

Looking ahead, Hon. Wandwasi is determined to transform Bungokho South into a model constituency with efficient and accessible public services. One of his major focus areas is lobbying for the establishment of a public university in Mbale District, a move that would make higher education more accessible for students in the region.

“I am committed to taking our constituency to the next level,” he said. “I have worked hard to deliver on my promises, and I am eager to do even more. I ask for your vote, so together, we can build a brighter future for our community.”

In the last general elections, Hon. Wandwasi secured 57% of the total vote and previously won the NRM primaries with a commanding 75%, defeating rivals Wokuri Godfrey and Washale David.

Despite emerging competition within the NRM and from opposition figures, his supporters remain optimistic about his re-election, citing his consistent performance and deep connection with the grassroots.

As the 2026 elections approach, Hon. Wandwasi is rallying support on a platform of continuity, progress, and people-centered leadership.
