Elderly woman lynched in Zombo over alleged witchcraft
"They even burnt her back and lips," the source revealed.

Zombo: A 60-year-old woman, Nyirumbe Joyce, a resident of Gburu village, Lendu Parish, Zeu Sub-county, Zombo District, was lynched by an enraged mob on allegations of practicing witchcraft.
The tragic event stemmed from the prolonged illness of a local resident identified only as Joel.
Joel reportedly developed a throat swelling, which was operated on at home, but his condition worsened. He was taken to Nyapea Hospital for treatment, but when no improvement was observed, he was transferred to Kiryandongo Hospital.
Despite further medical attention, his health continued to deteriorate.
Upon his return home, Joel’s family sought prayers for his healing. During the prayer session, it was alleged that Nyirumbe was responsible for his suffering through witchcraft.
On Tuesday, a group of residents confronted Nyirumbe, demanding that she heal Joel or face death. The situation escalated as the mob started beating her and set her house on fire.
According to a resident who spoke anonymously to UG Reports, Nyirumbe was severely tortured throughout the night.
“They even burnt her back and lips,” the source revealed.
Mr. Stephen Aunge, the LC1 Chairman of Gburu village, said he was alerted by a Good Samaritan on Wednesday morning.
“Upon reaching the scene, I found the victim in critical condition and immediately reported the matter to Zombo Central Police Station (CPS),” he said.
By the time police arrived, the perpetrators had fled.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, Collins Asea, confirmed the incident, stating that Nyirumbe was rushed to Zeu Health Centre for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Asea said police have opened a case of murder and arson under VIDE ZEU SD 09//11/03/2025 and are actively investigating the matter.
He condemned the attack and urged the public to seek medical help instead of resorting to mob justice or religious assumptions.
“Whenever a person falls sick, the first place to seek help should be a health center, not a place of worship. Even in the Bible, it is clear help yourself first, and then God will help you,” Asea stated.
