Kitgum’s Former Central Division Headquarters’ Renovation Deferred for Committee Scrutiny

Beyond the renovation debate, the council proceeded to review reports from various committees, including the Finance, Planning, and Administration Committees.

Kitgum: The Kitgum Municipality Council on Wednesday deferred discussions on the renovation of the former Central Division Headquarters, referring the matter to the Working Committee for further scrutiny before it is presented back to the council.

This decision follows the continuation of previous council meetings held on September 16 and October 30, 2024, which ended prematurely due to the suspension of Municipality Mayor Ojara Richard Okwera for two consecutive sittings, as well as the transfer of the former Town Clerk, Hajji Uthman Ssebadukka, to Ibanda Municipality.

During the latest council meeting, Deputy Mayor Hon. Kidega Patrick Paul, who also serves as the Head of Government Business, presented a report from the Municipality Executive Committee.

This prompted Hon. Amitayo Odongpiny to move a motion to refer the renovation issue to the council’s Working Committee for further review, a motion that received unanimous support from the council members.

Beyond the renovation debate, the council proceeded to review reports from various committees, including the Finance, Planning, and Administration Committees.

During the session, Hon. Nokrach Reagan, the Kitgum Municipality Speaker, extended a warm welcome to the newly deployed Town Clerk, Mr. Bagonza Monday Joseph.

He also emphasized the need for mutual respect between the political leadership and the technical wing of the municipality to ensure smooth governance and service delivery.
