NRM likely to lose popularity in Buliisa
When thieves are arrested they are released the following day.

Op-Ed: I’m writing this letter to the NRM National Chairman who is also the president of the Republic of Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to report the enemies of NRM in Buliisa district and the neighboring areas.
Buliisa district is one of the districts in Bunyoro which has been voting NRM almost 90% in general elections having no gap for opposition, but currently Buliisa district has many issues which will create space for opposition.
I’m going to mention few of them, as a Journalist and a mobiliser I interact with different types of people in the community.
The first issue causing people to talk ill about the current government is;
Land grabbing
Residents have been evicted from their lands and nothing has been done, example of land evictions is in Kakora Village Bugana parish in Buliisa Sub County where people were evicted, their houses burnt and lost properties worth millions but government did not help them,
Another land issues is in Butiaba where residents were threatened to beevictedclaiming the land belongs to Kahwa Balaam a tycoon in Buliisa district.
In the villages of Kitigo, Bubwe, Kalengeija A have also have been threatned by Prince Kintu Gafabusa claiming the land was given to him by his late father Sir Tito Winyi in early years, Government officials have tried to intervene in the matter but nothing has been done.
In Kapaapi Sub County, about 1000 people were evicted in 2023, their houses burnt.
FPU on Lake Albert
The initiative of FPU is good on the Uganda’s waters but a person remains a person, some bad elements within the system have left many fishermen crying due to extortion and corruption
Remember residents are just healing from Covid-19 wounds and are currently hit by foods but instead of finding a solution of planning for them, they are paid by harassment.
Many boats and nets have been burnt and destroyed but no alternative has been given to support their livelihood. Residents have asked government to provide a special funding so that they can be able to buy the recommended nets and boats but nothing has been promised to them. Stephen Mbidi who has been mobilizing for NRM as been the chairperson for entrepreneurship league has defected to NUP as the Party’s district focal person
Floods
People have remained homeless, they have reached the extent of sleeping on the tarmac road at night in fear of being attacked by crocodiles and Hippos at night. I repeat this, people sleep in the middle of the roads especially in Butiaba town council because water flooded and entered their houses. There need for relocating these people.
Animal theft
As if this is not enough people of Buliisa have no way of turning from one side to another, when the fishing community is crying, cattle keepers also cry from the other side, when land victims cry also those affected by Elephants, floods, FPU and those affected by cattle theft cry to the same and even louder voice.
Last year in November, I and my colleague Pascal Onega a news editor at Biiso fm 97.8 a local radio station attended a meeting where cattle keepers invited the RDC Longino Bahebwa Byagagaire of Buliisa to report to him how their cows were being stolen but Police was not helping them, it’s from that time that I asked myself whether we have security in Buliisa.
The road used to ferry cows to other districts like Hoima where stolen cows have been found in abattoir is one, then I ask myself how could security fail to end cattle theft yet we have one outlet, could this be connivance?
When thieves are arrested they are released the following day.
Elephant invasion
Yes some development is being done, where electric fence is being constructed, I thank government for that progress, but we have lost many people as a result of invasion and no compensation has ever been effected. Until of recent when the members of the community turned rowdy and chased away leaders from the burial ceremony including the chairman LC5 Mr. Fred Lukumu and the RDCLongino Bahebwa Byagagaire and representatives of the area MPs.
Corruption
Due to escalating tendencies of corruption, employment has become a booming business paying highly in Buliisa district. To be employed be it a government position or in the Oil and Gas company you must pay heavily.
Youth with required qualifications have remained jobless because they don’t have money to buy jobs.
Conclusion
There are some people who don’t want to know whether NRM has majority support or not, their work is to eat and sleep full stop.
- I want security to prove me wrong, all road signs on Kyesiga- Butiaba Wanseko road were vandalized not even a single piece remained on the road, how many did you arrest and charged in courts of law? How many people have you arrested and prosecuted for stealing cattle?
- UWA how many people have been compensated for losing their relatives after being attacked by Elephants, Hippos and Crocodiles?
I propose that as NRM Buliisa you need to always inform the party of what is happening in your areas that impact the operations of the party in district. Never undermine your enemy.
I request President Museveni using your powers as the National chairman to intervene in the above Matter to regain the party’s popularity as usual.
