SAD! One confirmed dead as Kitgum traders involved in accident
Since July 2016, vehicles transporting Owino traders have been involved in over 50 accidents, leading to multiple fatalities.

Kitgum: A tragic road accident occurred on the morning of Friday, February 21, 2025, involving traders from Kitgum Owino who were traveling to Tumangu Market Day in Akwang Subcounty, Kitgum District.
According to Quinton Olweny, the chairperson of the traders’ association, several individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving critical care at Kitgum Government Hospital.
Sadly, one female vendor, identified as Akech Poline, 43, a resident of Westland in Central Division, Kitgum Municipality, lost her life in the accident. Akech was known for selling salt and other merchandise.

Authorities attribute these incidents primarily to human error and mechanical failures, with a significant spike in occurrences during August and September 2024.
