Suspected thief beaten, burnt to death in Mbale

Authorities strongly caution the public against taking the law into their own hands.

Mbale: A suspected thief was lynched by an angry mob in Namakwekwe, Northern Division, Mbale City, after being caught climbing a fence on January 30, 2025, at around 5:00 AM.

The deceased has been identified as Nabulumbi Zadoki, a 35-year-old boda boda rider of the Gishu tribe and a resident of Mission Cell, Namakwekwe, Northern Division, Mbale City.

According to Elgon Region Police spokesperson Rogers Taitika, a boda boda rider left home for work at dawn.

While passing through Bumboi Cell, he noticed two unknown individuals climbing a wall thus raised an alarm, attracting the attention of another boda boda rider, and together, they pursued the suspects.

Taitika said as more residents joined the chase, one of the thieves was caught.

In a shocking twist, the captured thief stabbed the first boda boda rider with a knife, causing severe bleeding.

The injured victim was rushed home, where he preserved the knife used in the attack and changed his blood-stained shirt.
He was later taken to Mbale Referral Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the mob continued assaulting the suspect, ultimately beating him to death near a culvert along Mission Road.

OC Operations Nkoma received a distress call and dispatched officers to the scene. However, by the time they arrived, the mob had already set the suspect’s body on fire.

Nkoma police responded promptly, documenting the case under SD Ref 04/30/01/2025 and the body was transported to Mbale City Mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

Authorities strongly caution the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging residents to hand over suspects to law enforcement agencies instead of resorting to mob justice.
