Masindi: Panga-wielding men have hacked to death Deo Bukenya, 60, a resident of Kyawinyi Cell Bulima Town Council Masindi district, while returning to his home.
Christopher Tolimanya told this publication that the incident happened on Monday at about 9:00 p.m.
Talimanya explained that they were in Kinenabuhere trading center by the time they got this news, stressing that they are living in too much fear because they don’t know what’s happening.
Ismail Hakiza, who rushed to the scene, explained that Bukenya was gruesomely murdered, adding that his body had multiple cuts on the head.
“He was killed almost in his compound. He was cut several times on the head,” said Hakiza.
This is the third killing in a period of about one month since one person from the neighboring Nyakaihura village in Buraru sub-county of Hoima district was hacked to death and the other three were injured.
The incident also happened just days ago when Jino Abiriga, the acting Masindi district health officer, was killed in cold blood in Kijura, North Central Division, Masindi Municipality, under unclear circumstances.
Abiriga’s body was found with a deep cut on the neck, back, and abdomen lying in the neighbor’s compound on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at about 6:00 a.m.
The attack in Nyakaihura village left Mary Pasca, 32, dead, while three others, including Ntegeka Kusima, 18, Ronald Odaga, 21, and Harriet Mongeni, 17, were severely injured.
Ntegeka, one of the survivors, explained that as he approached his grandmother’s home, he discovered the assailants lying in wait.
“Despite sounding an alarm for help, I was swiftly attacked. I sustained cuts at my hand, leg, and head,” he noted.
Ronald Odaga, another victim, said he was also ambushed while walking home, adding that his chest and leg were also injured.
He noted that his cell phone was also taken away by the assailants.
Osborne Bajuga said the Chairperson of LCIII Bulima Town Council told the our reporter that immediately after getting the information, he informed the police, so that it would swing into action.
Bajuga condemned the act, calling upon security operatives in the district to beef up security in the area since people are living in fear.
By the time of filing this story, the deceased’s body was still lying at the scene.
Efforts to get a comment from Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson were futile, as he wouldn’t respond to our calls.
