UPDF praised for stabilising Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
He reiterated that the fight against terrorism is a shared responsibility.
Fort Portal: The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have received praise for their efforts in stabilizing the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), particularly through their Mountain Division’s participation in a joint operation with the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC).
A delegation of 16 Defence Attachés, representing various embassies in Uganda, visited the Mountain Division headquarters at Muhoti Barracks in Fort Portal City on November 7, 2024, to learn more about the progress of the operation.
The Defence Attachés, led by Col. Patrick Nkaduda from the Kenyan Embassy, commended the UPDF, especially the Mountain Division, for their significant role in pacifying the region and combating the terrorist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
Col. Nkaduda emphasized the importance of collective international action against global terrorism and pledged support for the UPDF in their efforts to eliminate ADF and other terror groups, ensuring regional stability.
In his remarks, Col. Kyomuhendo from the UPDF Mountain Division expressed gratitude for the support and interest shown by the Defence Attachés.
He reiterated that the fight against terrorism is a shared responsibility and highlighted that the collective efforts of all nations involved are essential for achieving peace and security in the region.
The diplomats’ visit was also an opportunity to experience Uganda’s natural beauty, as they toured the Rwenzori Mountain ranges and the hot springs of Semliki National Park, offering a glimpse of the country’s rich tourism potential.
