Serere: Police in Serere district are actively investigating the circumstances under which an 18-year-old girl was murdered by unknown thugs in the district.

Deceased identified as Scovia Apio, a senior three students of a homeward secondary school in Serere district.

Edison Obukulem, the acting east Kyoga police spokesperson, says the preliminary findings indicate that the deceased got death threats from her boyfriend, Philip Ajotu, on June 8, 2024, but issues were not reported to the relevant authorities.

It’s alleged that on June 12, 2024, at around 0400 a.m., the deceased’s brother Tom Osako went outside for a short call. On coming back, he met the deceased, who was also going for a short call. After around 5 minutes, the brother heard a pig making noise, and he suspected something had gone wrong.

“The brother moved out and saw a certain man coming from the room of the sister. He tried running after him but failed to get him and couldn’t even identify him. At that time, he proceeded to the sister’s room and found her dead,”  said Mr. Obukulem.

Mr. Obukulem added that afterwards, the matter was reported to CPS Serere via CRB:285/2024.

“The preliminary findings indicate that the deceased person received death threats from her boyfriend Philip Ajotu on June 8, 2024, but issues were not reported to the relevant authorities. It’s also believed that the deceased had misunderstandings with her boyfriend upon realizing that the boyfriend was in love with her best friend,”  Obukulem added.

He said the body of the deceased has been conveyed to the mortuary for a postmortem, and no arrest has been made so far.

However, police are working around the clock to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
