Unknown criminals set Zombo school quarter on fire
Police investigations are underway, but locals are demanding swift action to prevent future attacks.

Zombo: Unknown criminals set two semi-permanent staff quarters ablaze at Ayaka Primary School in Aka Sub-county, Zombo District last week.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving teachers and residents deeply concerned about security in the area.
Ayaka Primary School, a government-aided institution established in the 1980s, serves over 1,000 learners. However, following the attack, several teachers have threatened to leave, citing a lack of security.
LCIII Chairperson of Aka Sub-county, Brian Oromcan, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the need for urgent government intervention.
“Unknown criminals attacked Ayaka Primary School and set two huts on fire in the middle of the night. We immediately reported the matter to the police, and investigations are ongoing.”
“We are deeply worried because many teachers are considering leaving, saying their safety is not guaranteed. We urgently need help from the security authorities.”
Francis Bolingo, District Councillor of Athuma Sub-county, condemned the attack, calling for a serious investigation and the immediate arrest of the culprits.
“We are extremely disappointed by this criminal act. We demand a thorough investigation and justice for the affected school.”
Local leaders and residents are urging the government to construct permanent structures and improve security, given the school’s proximity to the volatile Eastern DR Congo.
Sadiki Onencan, Chairperson of the Zombo District Social Services Committee, stated that his office had not yet received an official report on the incident.
Land disputes in Aka Sub-county have been an ongoing challenge, with Micheal Ngamadhe, Chairperson of the Aka Sub-county Land Board, previously warning about rising conflicts between the community and institutions.
Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Zombo, Festus Ayikobua, has urged all LCI chairpersons to remain vigilant, citing ongoing insecurity in Eastern DR Congo and the need for heightened security measures.
Police investigations are underway, but locals are demanding swift action to prevent future attacks.
