Umukuka III appointed council member for Ibanda University
In this role, Umukuka III will represent over 15 cultural institutions across Uganda on the university council.
Mbarara: The Ibanda University Council has appointed the Umukuka III of the Bamasaba people, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, as a council member. This appointment allows Umukuka III to represent the interests of traditional and cultural leaders on the council.
The Bamasaba Cultural Institution’s spokesperson, Steven Masiga, confirmed the news, noting that His Highness has received his official commission, signed by Professor James Opolot, the Vice Chancellor of Ibanda University. In this role, Umukuka III will represent over 15 cultural institutions across Uganda on the university council.
The Bamasaba community expressed their excitement and pride in the appointment of their cultural leader. Hon. Irene Khainza, a minister in Inzu Yamasaba, praised Umukuka III’s leadership. Similarly, Hon. Vincent Waboya and Hon. Wilson Watila celebrated the news of his election.
Commissioners Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu from the Ministry of Agriculture and Commissioner Andrew Masaba from the Ministry of Water also congratulated both the university and His Highness.
The Bamasaba diaspora echoed these sentiments, with Hon. Michael Materesi, president of the Bamasaba community in the United Kingdom, and Professor Florence Walokoso, representing the Bamasaba community in the United States and Canada, offering their congratulations. Hon. Agnes Wache from the Kenyan Bamasaba chapter also conveyed her appreciation for the new appointment.
Steven Masiga highlighted that Umukuka III is well-versed in university affairs, with a master’s degree in forestry from Makerere University and additional qualifications from various universities abroad. His Highness also brings experience from his previous role as a board member of the Uganda Electricity Board.
