UCC donates computers to Archbishop Janani Luwum Memorial College in Kitgum

This initiative is expected to enhance the teaching and learning experience, particularly as digital literacy becomes increasingly important in today’s world.

Kitgum: The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has donated 20 computers to Archbishop Janani Luwum Memorial College, located in Mucwini West Sub-county, Kitgum District, in a move aimed at enhancing ICT education at the school.

This follows a coordination of the Kitgum district Woman MP who is also the State Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees – OPM, Hon Dr Aber Lillian with the UCC headquarters two months ago following the outcry from the college leadership.

The donation was announced by Mr. Okao Robert, the headteacher of the college, during a PTA Executive meeting held recently.

Mr. Okao reported that while all 20 computers were initially delivered and installed, two encountered mechanical issues and were sent back to Kampala for replacement.

With the newly donated computers now in place, the college’s computer lab is significantly better equipped, providing students with an opportunity to improve their skills in information and communication technology (ICT).

“These computers are a great boost to our efforts to improve ICT education at the college. With a well-equipped computer lab, our students will now have the tools they need to learn and develop critical digital skills,” Mr. Okao remarked.

The school, founded in 1982 in honor of Archbishop Janani Luwum, a prominent Ugandan archbishop and martyr, currently serves a student population of 429, including 268 boys and 162 girls, under the guidance of 19 teaching staff.

UCC’s donation is part of its broader commitment to improving access to digital education and supporting schools across Uganda in the development of ICT infrastructure. This initiative is expected to enhance the teaching and learning experience, particularly as digital literacy becomes increasingly important in today’s world.

As Archbishop Janani Luwum Memorial College continues to expand its educational resources, the support from UCC is seen as a critical step in preparing students for the digital age.
