All recovered items were taken to Mbale CPS for safekeeping.
Mbale: Two men have been arrested in Mbale on suspicion of possessing stolen cow meat. The suspects, identified as Watibini Martin and Wabudeya Moses from Bunefure Village, Bugobero Sub-county, Manafwa District, were apprehended on the morning of November 19, 2024, in Bubirabi Cell, Namatala Ward, Industrial Division, Mbale City.
According to ASP Mulali Mustapha, the Officer in Charge of Operations at Mbale Central Police Station (CPS), the arrest was prompted by a tip-off from officers at Half Landon Police Post about suspected criminals occupying a house. ASP Mulali and his team swiftly acted on the information.
Upon arrival, they found the house’s garage open, where the suspects were discovered cleaning what appeared to be stolen meat. When approached, the suspects attempted to flee into other rooms, armed with machetes (pangas). In the resulting confrontation, officers shot both men in the thighs as they made aggressive moves toward the police.
SP Rodgers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the recovery of stolen items, including: five heads of cattle, twenty legs of cattle, various organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart.
A blood-stained Toyota car (registration number UBL 230B) was also seized at the scene.
The suspects, found in a pool of blood and feigning unconsciousness, were rushed to a referral hospital for medical attention and remain under police guard.
All recovered items were taken to Mbale CPS for safekeeping, awaiting court-directed disposal. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the stolen meat and identify potential accomplices in the crime.
