Thugs steal solar equipment from Nora Primary School

Following the theft, a police sniffer dog was deployed to track down the culprits.

Oyam: Nora Primary School in Akuridia village, Kamdini sub-county, was left in shock after unknown individuals broke into the school and stole a solar battery and inverter over the weekend.

The school’s headmaster, Daniel Labeja, confirmed the incident, stating that the thieves broke into his office and took the stolen items. The matter has been reported to Kamdini Police Station under SD 04/17/03/2025.

The chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Moses Oyepa Ricky Agwech, also confirmed the theft, highlighting that the school has been terrorized by thieves for over 15 years.

“In 2010, criminals stole a maize mill installed by World Vision, lightning arrestors, solar batteries, and inverters provided by UEGCL Karuma Hydro Power Project, along with two classroom blocks that had been constructed,” Oyepa recounted.

Following the theft, a police sniffer dog was deployed to track down the culprits. The dog led officers to the home of a suspect one kilometer away, eventually lying on the suspect’s bed and that of his brother, whose identity the police declined to reveal.

Terence Omonya, the LC III chairman of Kamdini Sub County, condemned the growing criminal activities, particularly those targeting schools and undermining education in the area.

Tensions escalated at Nora Trading Center when an angry community arrested a suspect and handed him over to a UPDF unit responsible for guarding Karuma Hydro Power Project, Nora Factory, and their property. However, the suspect was later released under unclear circumstances.

After receiving this information, the LC I chairperson of Nora Cell and a police criminal investigations officer (CIO) visited the scene, only to find that the suspect had been freed.

A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Residents and school authorities are calling for urgent action to curb the increasing cases of theft and ensure justice is served. The school, which has suffered multiple thefts over the years, is now urging authorities to enhance security measures to protect educational facilities.
