Teso speakers inaugurate 3rd AGM
She said some of the people end their term of leadership without understanding their roles.
Teso: The Speakers across Teso sub region have today September 19, 2024 inaugurate their third annual general meeting hosted by Bbukedea district.
The AGM held at Barak motel and it’s attended by over ten districts across Teso sub region.
In an interview, Bogere Ramathan the chairperson for Teso speakers association noted that the association objective intended to support members amidst challenges that in their respective areas of operation.
Teso Speakers Association started on May 20, 2022 comprising f districts of Bukedea, Kalaki, Amuria, Kapelebyong, Katakwi, Kumi Ngora, Serere, Soroti city, Kaberemaido and Soroti district with the aims of uniting all the speakers of Teso sub region with one voice through and policy reforms in order to enhance service delivery and performance of local government councils.
“Our first and second was held in year 2022, 2023 in Soroti and this year its Bukedea hosting it”, said Mr. Bogere.
Ms. Hellen Amunyo the Bukedea town council speaker who doubles as Treasurer for Teso speakers association says despite the invitations, some of the district didn’t honor.
“We expected more than this number of participant but in some districts the accounting officers didn’t facilitate the speakers”, said Ms. Amunyo.
However, the AGM is characterized by numerous activities of tree planting and a friendly football match against Mama Bukedea radio staff.
Mr. Sam Engole the chairperson LCIII bukedea town council urged the entire speakers to execute their roles for the betterment of service delivery.
“This meetings will help us to learn and relate the issues affecting the people of Teso since Teso issues differ from Western issues”, said Mr. Engole.
Engole also added that some of the councilors do not under the council run therefore face the challenge especial during the council sittings.
“I joined council when I was very raw even how to speak was a problem to me until we were taken to Iganga for an induction”, added Engole.
Ms. Juliet Agonyo, the Soroti city speaker told this website that the formulation of Teso Speakers association has bridged the gap amongst speakers in various capacities.
She said some of the people end their term of leadership without understanding their roles.
“Let’s take this advantage to learn and understand how other speakers relate issues in their respective sub counties, this will help to build up our councils”, said Speaker Agonyo.
William Wilberforce Tukei, RDC Bukedea says the representation of the entire Teso districts shows unity.
