TERRIBLE! Six electrocuted to death at wedding party in Mubende

Mubende: Police in Mubende district are actively investigating a rush and neglect case that caused the deaths of six people.
The incident occurred on Thursday June 06, 2024 at around 0900 hrs at Butawata market, Butawata “E” village, Kigando parish, Kigandoo Subcounty in Mubende district.
Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, has identified the deceased persons as Asaba Godwin Bidewa, 40, a resident of Kigando village, Kigando parish, and Kigando subcounty in Mubende district.
Others are Byamukama Boaz, 51, a resident of Namugongo village, Kigando parish, Kigando county in Mubende district, and Ayebazibwe Jordan, 22, a businessman and a resident of Butawata village, Kigando parish, Kigando subcounty in Mubende district.
Walusimbi George, 19, a resident of Rwensha village, Kigando parish, Kigando subcounty in Mubende district, Kakuru Ambrose, 30, a resident of Lusanga village, Kigando parish, Kigando subcounty Mubende district, and Kyozzo Nasasira Innocent, 32, a boda boda rider and a resident of Kabateza “B” villag,Kigando parish, Kigando subcounty Mubende district are among the deceased persons.
According to Kawala, preliminary findings indicate that deceased persons were hired by Otamugaya Nelson (the groom) to erect tents for his wedding function, which was scheduled to take place today, June 6, 2024, at about 1200 hrs at Butawata Market Ground.
It is alleged that while erecting the tent, its metallic edge got in contact with the electricity wire or lines there, causing electrocution and resulting in the deaths of six.
Kawala said that the deceased persons were electrocuted by three phase lines. ‘’Our task team, led by Mubende district police commander and Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (UEDCL), responded to the scene of the crime,” she said.
The regional police mouthpiece asserted that a case of rush and neglect causing death has been opened up and investigations have commenced, vide KSB CRB:160/202.

Kawala asserted that the bodies of the deceased persons have been taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.
Otamugaya Nelson, the groom and a former teacher at Kigando Seed Secondary School, was rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for first aid after collapsing due to the shock and is currently admitted.
However, the area police had not been informed about the function, and it has also been established that people in that area had illegal power connections.
Kawala cautioned members of the public against illegal power connections as they are life-threatening.
