TERRIBLE! P.5 pupil dies in fight with classmate, family revenges

The body of the deceased was taken to the Atutur Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. 

Kumi: The territorial police of Kumi District have commenced investigations into the alleged murder involving two juveniles, which occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at around 1250/C at Auruku Ominai primary school, Ogoma sub-county, Kumi District.

The deceased was identified as Jane Titin, a 14-year-old female Juvinile Atesot by tribe, a primary-five pupil, and a resident of Nyero in Kumi District.

Edison Obukulem, the acting police spokesperson for East Kyoto, confirmed this in a press briefing Wednesday evening, saying the deceased was playing in class when they picked up a disagreement and a scuffle ensued.

This prompted one Ivan Etiang to box the deceased on the breast, leading to her collapse, according to the eyewitnesses.

“The head teacher of the school was then informed, and the decreased was rushed to Nyero Health Center, where she was pronounced dead by the medical officer,” said Mr. Obukulem.

Mr. Obukulem added that the case of murder was registered at CPS Kumi vide CRB:394/2024.

He added that the relatives of the deceased, upon getting the information about the death of their daughter, mobilized immediately and went to attack the family of the suspect, looting several properties, including an unspecified number of goats, sheep, and cows, as well as burning a number of temporal and semi-temporal houses.

“The suspect, who has been identified as Ivan Etiang Ivan, a 13-year-old primary school pupil and a resident of Nyero in Kumi District, has been arrested and is currently being detained at CPS Kumi as investigations are under way.

However, the body of the deceased was taken to the Atutur Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
