Kibaale: A 23-year-old man has been lynched by an angry mob in Kibaale District after he was allegedly caught stealing a motorcycle.
The deceased, identified as Julius Kiiza, a casual laborer and resident of Kyeguruma village, met his tragic end on Monday night around 9:00 PM in Kirasa Parish, Kyebando Sub-County.
According to Julius Allan Hakiiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, Kiiza was reportedly caught fleeing with a motorcycle belonging to one Robert Bamukama.
The mob descended on him, assaulting and inflicting severe cuts that led to his death on the spot.
Police have since arrested two suspects in connection with the incident. They have been identified as Matia Byamukama and another man only identified as Nicholas.
Authorities are continuing their search for other individuals believed to have been involved in the lynching.
The stolen motorcycle has been recovered, and Kiiza’s body has been transported to a district health facility for a postmortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing, and Hakiiza has strongly condemned the act of mob justice, urging the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
“We appeal to members of the public to report suspects to the relevant authorities and allow due process to take its course,” Hakiiza stated.
