St. Janani Luwum committee receives Shs35mln in funding

This year’s St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day will feature a range of pre-event activities, including football tournaments concluding on Friday, February 14.

Kitgum: The Local Organizing Committee for the 48th St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day has confirmed receiving a 35 million shillings contribution from the National Organizing Committee to support this year’s commemoration activities.

This announcement was made on Sunday, February 9, 2025, by Mr. Komakech Denish Mageno, Chairperson of the Publicity Subcommittee.

According to Mageno, this marks the first time the National Organizing Committee has provided such a significant contribution to the Local Organizing Committee, which is managing an overall budget exceeding 80 million shillings.

This year’s St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day will feature a range of pre-event activities, including football tournaments concluding on Friday, February 14.

A team of intercessors will also be sent to Kitgum, particularly in Mucwini, to spread the gospel. The Consecration of St. Luke Church will take place in Pachua Pakuba, Mucwini West Subcounty, on Saturday, February 15, ahead of the main commemoration on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

Rev. Canon Cincy Amigo, Lead Reverend of St. Paul Church of Uganda in Wii-gweng, confirmed that preparations are in the final stages to welcome believers from different regions and religious backgrounds.

Invitations have been sent to all chapels near the Pilgrimage Site. A large group of young Christian believers is being prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which will take place on Saturday, February 15, during the Consecration of St. Luke Church.

Mr. Okumu Amos Awira, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee for the Consecration of St. Luke Church, stated that they are expecting the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, to preside over the church commissioning this Saturday, which will usher in the 48th St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day on Sunday.
