Seven Kitgum government schools fail to register candidates for PLE this year

Kitgum: In Kitgum District, seven government schools will not have candidates sitting for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), amidst a total of 91 primary schools in the district.
This information was revealed by Kitgum District Education Officer Mr. Lawot Anthony Lam while appearing on one of the local radio stations in Kitgum district on October 27, 2024.
Additionally, Lamwo District reported two government-aided schools without registered candidates from a total of 74 schools.
The teacher-to-pupil ratio in Kitgum stands at a concerning 1:120, significantly exceeding the education policy target of 1:53. Lamwo District also faces challenges, with a ratio of 1:79 and a shortage of over 400 teachers.
Mr. Lawot also noted that Alune Primary School in Kitgum is without staff quarters, forcing teachers to stay in classrooms overnight and vacate them each morning for lessons.
