This was sounded by several stakeholders from six districts, including Ntoroko, Kagadi, Kikuube, Hoima, Buliisa, and Pakwach, during the regional security meeting held recently at the Wantembo UPDF barracks in Butiaba town council Buliisa District.

While presiding over the meeting, Buliisa Resident District Commissioner Longino Byagagaire Bahebwa said it has come to the attention of area leaders and security that a number of illegal landing sites have been established on the shores of Lake Albert.

‘’It has come to our attention as area leaders and security that a number of illegal landing sites have been established on the shores of Lake Albert.’’

Byagagaire, who declined to disclose the illegal landing sites for fear of jeopardizing security investigations, said the illegal landing sites that are from Ntoroko District to Pakwach are harboring elements from the Democratic Republic of Congo who are found smuggling goods and other things, hence a threat to security.

He disclosed that every district committee will participate in the closure and leave the gazetted ones.

During the same meeting, the regional security team also resolved a plan to meet and have a cross-border meeting with the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo over militia men confiscating fishermen`s items on the waters, saying several fishermen had paid ransom to the militia guys.
