Apparently, no driver has been arrested since they are still on the run.

Nwoya: A devastating accident along the Gulu-Kampala Highway has resulted in the loss of three lives.

The deceased persons have been identified as: Aisha Namatovu and two yet-to-be identified bodies, while the injured persons have been identified as Ramathan Shaban and another unidentified person who was rushed to an unknown health facility.

Ongom David Mudong, the Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that the incident, which occurred near the Karuma checkpoint on Friday, May 12, 2024, involved two vehicles: a silver T-Hiace with registration number SSD 770CK and an Isuzu Bus belonging to Nilestar Bus Company, painted in yellow with registration number UBG 085C.

According to Mudong, brief facts indicate that the motor vehicle registration number SSD 770CK T/hiace was coming from the Kampala direction, facing Gulu and heading to Juba. As it approached half a kilometer to the Karuma checkpoint, it overtook another vehicle and met with a Nile Star bus that was from the opposite direction, heading to Kampala, and ended up smashing the passenger side of T/hiance, killing and injuring some of its passengers on board.

The regional police mouthpiece attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving by the driver of a motor vehicle, reg. No. SSD 770CKT/hiance

The traffic police visited the scene and documented the bodies taken to Anaka hospital for a postmortem, while the injured have been rushed to the RG Health facility within Karuma town council.

Apparently, no driver has been arrested since they are still on the run. However, Mudong told this publication that more inquiries are ongoing at Nwoya Central Police Station under VIDE TAR 33/2024.
