All three victims died at the scene, and their bodies were subsequently taken to Buliisa General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Buliisa: A tragic road accident in Buliisa District has claimed the lives of three people, including a 15-year-old boy and two women, one of whom was carrying a 5-year-old child.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at approximately 2:35 pm along the Bugoigo-Buliisa Road, near River Waiga, close to Buliisa Prison Farm in Kabolwa Village, Buliisa Sub-county.
According to an eyewitness, Mr. Godius Ayesiga, the crash involved two vehicles: a Fuso truck with registration number UBQ 912R, which was coming from Zeu Sub County in Zombo District after disembarking from the MV Albert Nile 1 Ferry at Wanseko docking point, and another unidentified Fuso truck that was loaded with watermelons, joining the main road.
Ayesiga explained that the accident occurred when the driver of the Fuso truck (UBQ 912R) lost control while attempting to avoid the watermelon-loaded truck that was merging onto the road. The driver, reportedly speeding, was unable to regain control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.
The victims of the accident have been identified as a 15-year-old boy, and two women, one of whom was carrying a 5-year-old child.
The group was reportedly from Kiyooro Landing Site in Kikuube District. All three victims died at the scene, and their bodies were subsequently taken to Buliisa General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Buliisa District Police Commander, Chrysostom John Mwahule, confirmed the incident and stated that a team of traffic police officers had been dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident and gather further details about the victims. The police are working to confirm the identities of the deceased and the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
This latest accident adds to a growing number of fatalities on Buliisa’s roads, particularly following the recent tarmacking of roads to facilitate oil production activities in the Albertine Graben.
On January 18, 2024, a Sino-Truck (registration number UBM 039F) knocked and killed 30-year-old Prisca Anirwoth along the Buliisa-Wanseko road. On January 24, 2024, another tragic accident occurred when Bigirwenkya Antwaani Musiimo, aged in his 60s, was killed in Kibambura village, Ngwedo Sub-county. A day later, on January 25, 2024, Moses Aliganyira lost his life in another crash along Biiso-Hoima Road.
The increase in accidents in the district has raised concerns, with many attributing the rise in road fatalities to both the faster-paced traffic on newly paved roads and the growing number of heavy vehicles associated with the oil industry.
Authorities are now facing pressure to improve road safety measures in the region to prevent further loss of life.
Local leaders and residents have called for greater vigilance and enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
With the roads in Buliisa becoming more accessible and heavily trafficked due to oil-related activities, it is crucial for both motorists and pedestrians to adhere to safety guidelines to protect lives.
