SAD! Ten confirmed dead in Kyenjojo accident
The vehicles were towed to police; meanwhile, the bus driver is on the run.
Fort Portal: Ten people have been confirmed dead in a nasty accident this morning at Kaihura trading center in Kyenjojo after a PokoPoko bus and a taxi collided.
The incident happened on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 around 4 a.m. along Fort Portal-Kampala Highway. It involved a bus UBE 807T ISUZU attached to the Pokopoko company and a UBR 812 G Toyota Hiace White in color.
Vincent Twesige, the Police Spokesperson for Rwenzori West stresses that the ten dead bodies have not been identified yet, while more others who sustained injuries were immediately rushed to the hospital.
‘’The bus of the Pokopoko company, which was coming from Kampala side, collided with the Toyota Hiace, which was coming from Fort Portal side, killing 10 passengers in the taxi, including its driver. Among those who died were eight males and two females. The taxi left its side and collided head-on with the oncoming bus, which had maintained its side,’’ he added.
The scene was visited by the RTO, DTO, and team, and all bodies were removed and taken to Kyenjojo Hospital for a postmortem. The vehicles were towed to police; meanwhile, the bus driver is on the run.
