Luwero: A tragic accident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway has resulted in six fatalities and five critical injuries after a head-on collision between a commuter taxi and a Fuso truck.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 3PM in Sinalya, near Bombo, when the Fuso truck, identified by its registration number UBN 052L, was reportedly overtaking recklessly and collided with a Toyota Hiace taxi (UBL 502Z).
The driver of the Fuso fled the scene, and authorities are currently seeking information to identify him. The taxi driver was killed instantly, and among the deceased were passengers including Rogers Mfitumukiza and Charles Opirisa, along with others whose identities are still being confirmed.
Injured victims have been taken to General Military Hospital in Bombo for urgent medical care, while the deceased were moved to Luwero Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Savanah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twinnaemazima they are investigating the incident.
He is urging drivers to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies on this heavily trafficked highway, which has a history of accidents due to reckless driving and dangerous overtaking.
