SAD! One dead, eight injured as truck overturns in Terego

Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash resulted from mechanical failure, specifically a brake malfunction.

Terego: A tragic road accident has claimed one life and left eight others severely injured after a truck overturned in Owafe village, Terego District. The incident occurred on Monday around 6 PM along the Arua–Yumbe road.

The deceased, identified as Ms. Oniru Jane, a 60-year-old resident of Bileafe in Terego District, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been taken to Arua Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the eight injured individuals are receiving medical attention.

According to Collins Asea, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, the accident involved a black Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBA 895X, which lost control while descending Tooth Can Loss Hill due to suspected brake failure.

“The vehicle overturned, resulting in the unfortunate loss of one life and injuries to eight passengers,” Asea stated.

Upon receiving the report at 6:40 PM, police officers, led by the District Police Commander (DPC) and the Officer in Charge (OC) Traffic, promptly responded to the scene. A sketch plan was drawn, and the vehicle remains at the site, pending removal and inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).

Efforts are underway to locate the driver, who fled the scene and remains at large. A case of Fatal Road Traffic Accident has been opened under reference number TGO TAR 42/2024.
