Ntungamo: Police in Ntungamo district have launched a manhunt for Alex Mutambuzi, a man in his 50s who is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, identified only as Tereeza, in a violent domestic dispute, writes Amon Muhumuza.
The incident occurred in Kabiga cell, Rwengoma parish, Ruhaama sub-county, where Mutambuzi allegedly attacked Tereeza over suspicions of infidelity on Thursday.
According to Steven Kyererezi, the area chairperson of Kabiga cell, Mutambuzi confronted Tereeza, accusing her of being involved with other men.
Witnesses reported that Mutambuzi stabbed her in the right thigh, causing severe bleeding that ultimately led to her death. As Tereeza attempted to escape to a nearby home for refuge, she collapsed from her injuries and passed away shortly afterward.
Francis Mubangizi, the LC I chairperson of Nyakinombe cell where the stabbing occurred, recounted that Tereeza had tried to flee, seeking refuge in the home of a resident, Mr. Abas Nabimanya. Efforts to alert local leaders and neighbors were made, but Tereeza died on the scene before help could arrive. Mutambuzi fled immediately following the incident.
Hon. Mpenda Bernad Mukasa, the area councilor for Ruhaama County, condemned the attack, calling it an act of terror that has shaken the community. He urged local leaders and residents to collaborate in addressing domestic violence in the area.
The Ntungamo police, alongside medical personnel, conducted a postmortem examination, after which Tereeza’s body was handed over to her family for burial.
