SP James Mubi, the Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, stated that preliminary investigations suggest Caroline, a resident of Mpumudde in Jinja City, was sexually assaulted multiple times before being murdered sometime between the night of January 27 and the early hours of January 28.
Mubi has appealed to the public for information that could lead to the identification of the suspect(s), assuring that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
SSP Charles Nsaba, leading the Kiira Regional Police Command, affirmed their commitment to finding the perpetrator(s). He emphasized that justice must be served for the grieving family, friends, and residents of Jinja City.
According to residents Namweba Lillian and Susan Namasaba, the deceased was a hairdresser who worked independently with her own clients in Jinja Town. They revealed that Caroline was pregnant at the time of her death and has left behind five children.
Notably, violent crimes against women and children saw a significant reduction last year, attributed to sustained community awareness campaigns.
These efforts focused on fostering good societal values and promoting responsible parenthood.
The police have pledged to continue such campaigns in schools, markets, churches, mosques, and through social media to further address and prevent crimes of this nature.
