SAD! 13 critically injured as bus, lorry collide in Kumi

Two motor vehicles have since been towed to Kumi Central Police Station for safe custody, and the cause of the accident has not yet been established.

Kumi: Thirteen passengers were seriously injured after a Kakise bus collided with a tata lorry in Kumi district.

The bus registration number UAZ 942R attached to Kakise Bus Company and the truck registration number UAW 615K were traveling in opposite directions along Kumi-Soroti road.

The East Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, Edson Obukulem, confirmed the incident and said it occurred on August 5, 2024, at around 10:30 p.m. in the Odelo area along Kumi-Soroti road.

Obukulem said the police, led by the officer in charge of traffic at Kumi Central Police Station, ASP Emojong, responded to the scene, and the case of an accident was registered at the same police station under VIDE TAR:55/2024.

‘’We haven’t registered any fatalities yet; however, thirteen passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kumi Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment,’’ he said.

The police officer noted that the two motor vehicles have since been towed to Kumi Central Police Station for safe custody, and the cause of the accident has not yet been established.

‘’The two motor vehicles were towered to Kumi Central Police Station for safety custody, and the case of the accident hasn’t been established; however, we shall keep you posted in case of any new developments,’’ Obukulem added.
