SAD! 10-year-old knocked dead in Masindi

He reiterated the police's commitment to enhancing road safety to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

Masindi: A 10-year-old girl has tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle along the Masindi–Paraa road in Kasenyi Bokwe Village.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 18, 2024, around 5:40 PM.

The deceased, identified as Fwocparowth Nelifer, a resident of Kigaragara village in Labongo sub-county, was reportedly crossing the road when she was hit by a Toyota Hilux, registration number UBE 815 RV, traveling from Pakwach to Kampala.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the driver, Can Phinehas, 41, reported the incident to the Masindi Police Station and has since been arrested and detained.

Preliminary investigations indicate that reckless driving may have contributed to the accident, and the case is being further examined under reference number TAR 151/2024.

Hakiza urged all drivers to exercise caution and be mindful of vulnerable road users, particularly children, and reiterated the police’s commitment to enhancing road safety to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
