Religious leaders undergo training in Arua
He says it is on this that religious leaders spearhead the campaign.
Arua: Religious and faith organization leaders across Westnile are for the two days training in Arua city.
The training taking place at heritage courts hotel in Arua city has attracted the religious and faith based organizations from the districts of Adjumani, Arua, Koboko, Maracha, Moyo, Yumbe and Arua city.
The engagement focuses on providing leadership in rebuilding integrity for sustainable national development.
Speaking to this publication on Tuesday May 21, 2024, Alex B Okello the permanent secretary directorate for ethics and integrity under office of the president says the engagement is to help the leaders to amend the broken down values and integrity in the various societies.
Among those include laziness, poor performance in schools, and immorality among others.
He says it is on this that religious leaders spearhead the campaign.
“The broken down integrity in our society is our point of concern and we have gathered all the faith and religious institutions to discuss this we must change the mind of people and those values and character we have lost which need to be re visited because they make development difficult” said Alex
Reverend father Jimmy Apangu the parish priest queen of heaven parish in Yumbe who doubles as the dean of Lodonga deanery say the government has taken a good move to use the religious institutions in rallying behind the cause.
He says it is the role of the church to keep re awakening their believers on the issue of integrity.
He says families need to take responsibility for the morals of the family members.
“Efforts of the government to bring on board faith based origins is a good move because the role of the church is always to check and balance the community. However in the church there is also corruption but it begins with families where the children are raised from before they become a threat in the society.”
Venerable Alber Limio Avi the archdeacon of Arua archdeaconry says there is need to engage families because the moral decay begins from homes before they go to the societies.
The national ethical value policy as government plan of action is to enhance social economic transformation without compromising the core of humanity which is developed in line with faith and religious people of Uganda to promote, protect and preserve the national values of the country.
