Rehabilitation of multi-billion Masindi Hospital launched
"We shall start with the construction of a two-storied building comprising 16 self-contained staff quarters for health workers," he stated.

Masindi: Authorities in Masindi District have launched the rehabilitation of the multibillion-shilling Masindi District General Hospital. The launch ceremony took place at the hospital premises on Wednesday evening.
In 2022, the government earmarked Shs50 billion to refurbish the hospital. However, the Ministry of Finance has so far released Shs500 million to kick-start the construction works.
Capt. Yunus Ntegeka, the Western Regional Project Manager for the UPDF Engineering Brigade, confirmed receipt of the Shs500 million for the first phase of the hospital’s rehabilitation.
“We shall start with the construction of a two-storied building comprising 16 self-contained staff quarters for health workers,” he stated.
Capt. Ntegeka noted that each unit will include a combined sitting and dining area, a toilet, a bathroom, a store, and two bedrooms. He added that the first phase of the project is expected to cost Shs1.5 billion and will take one year to complete, depending on the subsequent quarterly release of funds.
He assured district leaders of quality work, timely completion, and incorporation of local content, stating that 40% of the workforce will be indigenous residents from Masindi and surrounding districts.
Dr. Rogers Musinguzi, the Acting Hospital Medical Superintendent, applauded the government for the initiative, saying it has come at the right time and will improve healthcare service delivery.
“This rehabilitation is timely as most of our structures are dilapidated. It will motivate our health workers and encourage patients to seek medical services at the facility,” he said.
While handing over the site to the UPDF Brigade, Masindi RDC Darius Nandinda commended the UPDF for its quality service in other projects and urged the Masindi team to maintain high standards in their work.
He also praised the UPDF Brigade for prioritizing employment opportunities for the local population, particularly those trained under the Presidential Hub, and encouraged the community to actively monitor the project’s progress.
“Monitoring should not be left to the RDC, councillors, or the district chairman alone. It is our collective responsibility to ensure quality work,” he emphasized.
Masindi District LCV Chairman, Cosmas Byaruhanga, expressed gratitude to the government for prioritizing the hospital’s rehabilitation but also appealed for the construction of a modern market in Masindi, citing its poor current state.
“Now that the hospital’s rehabilitation has begun, we urge the government to also consider building a modern market for Masindi,” he said.
