Police recover baby stolen from Kigorobya HCIV, two arrested
The baby was stolen on January 12, just two days after being born, prompting a swift police response and an intensive search for the infant.
Hoima: Police in Hoima district have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of a newborn baby boy from Kigorobya Health Centre IV.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Julian Kusemererwa, a tailor from Kisaka Village, and her mother-in-law, 66-year-old Zam Kyakuha, a resident of Kigorobya 2 Cell, were apprehended on January 13 following a tip-off from the Kisukuma Parish Chairperson.
Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, confirmed the arrests, stating that investigations revealed Kusemererwa had been deceiving her husband, claiming that she was pregnant.
According to Hakiza, such incidents could be attributed to laziness, with some individuals preferring to depend on their spouses rather than working hard.
The baby was stolen on January 12, just two days after being born, prompting a swift police response and an intensive search for the infant.
The theft adds to a concerning trend of similar cases in the region. In December 2024, police arrested a woman, Teddy Gipatho (alias Patricia), for stealing a 3-day-old baby from Pakwach Health Centre IV.
Earlier, in March 2024, a twin baby boy was stolen from Koboko Hospital, and in August 2024, a 22-year-old woman was arrested for stealing a newborn from Masindi General Hospital.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Kigorobya case, working diligently to recover the stolen baby.
