Police names victims of Kassanda road accident
The police officer asserts that those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Mityana Hospital and Bukuya Health Center IV for treatment.
Kassanda: Territorial traffic police in Kassanda district are investigating a fatal accident that has claimed 14 lives and left scores injured.
Racheal Kawala, the police spokesperson for the Wamala region, explains that the incident happened on Wednesday, June 19, 2023, at around 1330 hrs in Namilyango village, along Mityana-Bukuya Road.
The accident involved an Isuzu forward truck registration number UBA 605A, silver in color, which was traveling from Mityana Town to Bukuya with market vendors on board.
According to Kawala, the driver, who has not been identified, lost control of the vehicle on a slope, causing it to overturn, resulting in the deaths of 11 people on the spot.

The scene of the crime has been visited by traffic officers, and the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Mityana hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Kawala has identified the deceased as: Yiga Huizith, 24, Baluku Derrick, 24, Nakamya Justine, 34, Mukasa Stephen, 65, Sarah Kalonga Nakiyingi Nakayi (female adult), Kigozi Jackson, 22, Namaweje (female), 25, Faisi Suzan (female adult), Fred (male adult), Aisha (female adult), Kabanda Ronald, Ssejansi (male adult), and Kabyesasa William.
She says police continue to investigate the cause of the accident and appeals to drivers to avoid overloading and using vehicles meant for goods to transport passengers, noting that it is illegal.
