Masindi: Police in the Greater Albertine Region are investigating three separate murder cases in the districts of Masindi, Kiryandongo, and Kakumiro.
In Masindi, a 24-year-old woman identified as Mukabalisa was found murdered. Police spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed that her body was discovered in a sugarcane plantation near her home in Rusungura village, Ntoma Parish, Bwijanga Sub-county.
The murder is believed to have occurred between January 2nd and 3rd, but it was only reported on January 4th.
Investigations are ongoing, and a bar owner, where Mukabalisa worked as a casual laborer, has been arrested to assist in the investigation. The body has been transferred to Masindi Hospital for a postmortem.
In Kakumiro, authorities are investigating the murder of 70-year-old Karuguze Twinomujuni, who was found hacked to death in his home in Kyangemukube village, Kijwenge Parish, Nalweyo.
Police spokesperson Hakiza revealed that the deceased had separated from his wife, Tusemerirwe Muhereza, after a series of misunderstandings. However, they continued living in the same village, and the wife often visited him.
On the morning of January 4th, at around 10:48 AM, she found him lying dead in a pool of blood. A suspect, identified as Saturday Emmanuel, who had been a friend to the victim, has been arrested.
Hakiza advised couples experiencing conflicts to separate physically and seek help from the police Family and Protection Unit if needed.
In Kiryandongo, police are investigating the poisoning death of 48-year-old Jannet Berochan, a resident of Karuma Trading Center near St. Joseph Catholic Church.
On January 3rd, Berochan returned home vomiting, and later revealed that the symptoms started after consuming alcohol. It is suspected that the alcohol was poisoned.
Authorities have seized all remaining alcohol from the bar where Berochan had been, and tests are underway to determine if it contained any toxic substances.
