Police intensify crackdown on cattle thieves in Albertine North Region
She also called on the community to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity.
Masindi: Police in the Albertine North Region have intensified operations targeting cattle thieves following a surge in livestock thefts in the area.
Addressing the media on Wednesday at her office, Damalie Nachuha, the Albertine North Regional Police Commander (RPC), urged the public to take extra precautions to safeguard their property, particularly cattle, as theft cases typically rise during the festive season.
“We have intensified operations targeting thieves, mostly cattle thieves, because we are nearing the festive season, and such cases tend to increase. Whoever is caught with stolen items will face the law,” Nachuha warned.
According to Nachuha, the vehicle was intercepted by officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) during a routine patrol. The URA team informed the police, who then towed the vehicle to Biiso Police Station in Buliisa. The vehicle’s occupants fled the scene before police arrived.
“They were intercepted by URA officials during their routine patrol, who informed us. We rushed to the scene and recovered one live cow, while the second had already been slaughtered,” Nachuha said.
In a separate incident last week, police in Masindi District also intercepted a vehicle suspected of carrying stolen cows in Ntooma Parish, Bwijanga Sub-county.
RPC Nachuha reaffirmed the police’s commitment to stamping out livestock theft in the region, especially ahead of the festive season when such crimes tend to spike. She also called on the community to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity.
