Outgoing Ntungamo RDC speaks out after missing on reshuffled list

He thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the opportunity to work with him in his office for ten years.

Ntungamo: Geoffrey Mucunguzi, the outgoing Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntungamo, has addressed allegations circulating about his being missing on the reshuffled list of RDCs.

On Monday this week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reshuffled the RDCs and their deputies.

He claims that rumors suggesting he was dismissed due to involvement in land disputes are an attempt at blackmail by those who wanted to seize public land.

‘’The owner of an online publication that claimed that I have been fired by the president is blackmailing me because I chased them away from Kyangara playground, trying to grab it from a poor lady from Kafunjo in the same district.’’

‘’The good thing is that the public knows very well that I have been a leader who was fighting corruption, theft, and criminality and pledged to keep working for the NRM party and government, whether deployed or not, because I have served God’s people,’’ he said.

Musinguzi thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the opportunity to work with him in his office for ten years.

Living Kamanyiro, a resident of Ntungamo, said that Ntungamo’s corruption has almost reached its menopause stage; fighting it is as hard as cooking stones to get a meal out of them.

‘’That’s why even some people who have tried to talk about it are seen as dangers to society and get threats almost every day,’’ he said, stressing that if you want to enjoy Ntungamo, it’s better to be a girlfriend or boyfriend to corruption, which is also not easy when you are a head of security.

He eventually said that the truth remains: Ntungamo’s corruption has a lot of tactics and appears in many colors and sexes (sometimes it comes as a man, woman, boy, girl, old, young, black, brown, etc.).

Natamba Edward, the director of the nongovernmental organization (SOWIPA), acknowledges that Geoffrey Mucunguzi, despite his personal weaknesses, played a significant role as a voice for the people.

‘’His absence will be felt in Ntungamo, particularly in terms of information sharing, as mandated by Uganda’s Access to Information Act of 2005.’’

Mucunguzi’s career trajectory has been diverse; he started as a teacher and later served as deputy RDC in various districts, including Kisoro, Kasese, Kiryandongo, and Kabarole. Ultimately, he was appointed as the full RDC for Ntungamo.

His replacement, Isaiah Kanyamahane, previously held the position of RDC in Kamwenge and also served as a deputy in Ntungamo prior to Mucunguzi’s tenure.
