Arua: Police in Arua successfully thwarted a robbery attempt in Onzivu village, Kuluva Parish, Vurra Sub-County, on October 25, 2024.

During the early morning operation, officers arrested two suspects: Andama Musema, 39, a bodaboda rider from Pajuru Zova Village, and Muzamiru Aryongi, 40, a resident of Manibe Cell, Ayivu East. A third suspect remains unidentified, and investigations are ongoing under case reference CRB 231/2024.

The police responded to reports of armed robbers unloading goods from two trailers transporting cement from Kampala to Arua City.

West Nile Region Acting Police Spokesperson SP Asea Collins reported that during the confrontation, one unidentified suspect was struck by a stray bullet and later died from injuries.

“Officers found the suspects forcefully unloading goods and reportedly armed. Warning shots were fired to halt their actions,” Asea explained.

During the operation, authorities recovered 11 bags of cement and a large water tank, along with motorcycles believed to have been used in the robbery. Statements from the truck driver and witnesses are being collected to support the investigation.

Asea reassured the public of the police’s commitment to community safety and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

This incident brings relief to traders, truck drivers, and passengers who have faced increasing highway robberies along the Arua-Nebbi Highway. In September, authorities identified hotspots between Bondo and Odianyadri Trading centers as areas particularly affected by robberies, often exacerbated by the poor condition of the Nebbi-Arua road.
