Zombo: A woman identified as Patricia Munguryek, a nurse and resident of Zingili Cell, was ambushed and shot multiple times with arrows by unidentified attackers in what is believed to be an election-related assault in Akir Cell, Zingili Ward, Paidha Town Council, Zombo District on the night of Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
According to her family, Munguryek is a known supporter of Zombo Woman MP aspirant Topista Acamfua, and the incident is suspected to stem from rising political tensions ahead of the NRM party primaries scheduled for Thursday, July 17.
Speaking at Paidha Central Police Station, the victim’s sister, Sarah Pirango, recounted the horrifying incident. She said Patricia was targeted around 11:00 p.m. while opening her door, ambushed by approximately five assailants.
“She had three arrows lodged in her chest and thigh. Being a nurse, she managed, with our help, to remove some of the arrowheads,” Pirango said.
The victim was first treated at Paidha Health Centre III, where health officials confirmed her injuries as severe and in need of advanced medical attention.
Before being admitted, Munguryek filed a report at Paidha Central Police Station, helping to initiate an investigation.
Topista Acamfua, the NRM Woman MP candidate for Zombo District, condemned the attack in strong terms and confirmed that Munguryek is indeed her supporter.
“Yes, I can confirm that my supporter, Patricia Munguryek from Akir Cell, Zingili Ward, was shot last night by unknown individuals. They took her phone, interrogated her about her political affiliation, and then shot her on the breast and thigh with arrows,” Acamfua told reporters at the police station.
She urged police to investigate thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Zombo District Police Commander, SP Denis Kamugisha, confirmed the incident, registering it under case number Paidha CRB 35/16/07/2025 and classifying it as attempted murder.
“The investigation is ongoing. So far, no arrests have been made,” Kamugisha stated.
Resident District Commissioner Festus Ayikobua also condemned the violence, describing the incident as “unfortunate and shameful.”
“Our people should really style up. Politics should not take over our humanity. We are investigating the matter seriously,” Ayikobua assured.
As of this report, Patricia Munguryek is still undergoing treatment at an undisclosed health facility, and her condition remains critical but stable.
The incident has sparked concern across Zombo District, as leaders and residents alike call for calm and for all political players to avoid violence and intimidation during the election season.
