Ntungamo parents warned against child marriages
She advised parents and girls wanting to be married to first complete their studies and at least make over 25 years of age.
Ntungamo: The Ntungamo district woman Member of Parliament has warned parents and guardians who have turned it into a habit of giving away their young daughters to be married when they are actually still under age and without knowing that this is against the law!
Hon. Joselyn Baata Kamateneti was speaking during the 5th graduation ceremony of the Rap Tech Institute of Business and Technology, where she was representing the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, as the guest of honor.
She advised parents and girls wanting to be married to first complete their studies and at least make over 25 years of age.
The function was held recently at the Rap Tech Institute’s main campus in Nyamisha Cell, Western Division, Ntungamo Municipality, where Dr. Wilfred Nahamya Karukuza, deputy executive secretary of Examinations Management at UBTEB (Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board), was the chief celebrant.
MP Kamateneti urged the 145 graduates to be job creators instead of job seekers because the government cannot afford to offer all of them jobs at the moment, but since they acquired skills from Rap Tech Institute, they can employ themselves!
The legislator also advised parents and guardians to invest in their children’s education for their bright future.
Graduates were also told to be good ambassadors of Rap Tech Institute wherever they go because discipline can lead them to achieve their goals.
She also urged the graduates to go upgrading; she also advised them to be God-fearing youths in order to be successful.
The politician said that she will coordinate with the office of the First Lady and donate computers to the Institute.
Mr. Seth Rukurungu, a private secretary to the First Lady, told graduates and continuing students of Rap Tech Institute the importance of being a disciplined person in life.
Dr. Nahamya Karukuza Wilfred, the Deputy Executive Secretary of UBTED, commended the management of Rap Tech Institute for producing competent graduates.
Rodgers Aijuka, the Executive Director of the institute, commended the Minister and First Lady Janet Museveni for being great intercessors of the nation, which is a reason why Uganda is peaceful and prosperous. He also thanked the First Lady for her constant support towards the progress of Rap Tech Institute and gave her an award of appreciation, which was received by Hon. Kamatene and Mr. Seth Rukurungu, a private secretary to the First Lady.
Aijuka Rodgers also thanked Dr. Nahamya of UBTEB for honoring their request and coming to grace the occasion as the Chief Celebrant. He said that they chose to invite him as the Chief Celebrant so that they could have an opportunity to thank him and the whole team at UBTEB for the wonderful work they are doing for the nation.
Nickness Byaruhanga, the institute principal, said that they have passed 145 graduates who successfully completed their national diplomas and certificates in different courses. He encouraged them to put into use the skills and knowledge acquired from Rap Tech Institute to develop themselves and excel in life.
He also encouraged them to go for further studies and be able to thrive and maneuver through this highly competitive world.
Dr. Abram Musinguzi of Tennessee State University, USA, who was the day’s keynote speaker, encouraged graduates to embrace every obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow, adding that failure is not an end but merely a step towards success.
Dr. Musinguzi, who is an assistant professor in the college of engineering at the same university in the United States of America, told graduates and the entire class to remember that it’s the journey and not the destination that shapes who they become! He further encouraged them to look for mentors, support each other, and never underestimate the impact they can make.
